New Hey House is a specialist Crisis-Intervention Centre providing a place of safety in a 28 day activity based placement. This service is available throughout the year on a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year basis. New Hey is situated four miles from junction 23 off the M62 near Huddersfield. Set in its own grounds of over four acres it offers an opportunity for children placed there to reflect in a tranquil and rural location. New Hey provides short term placements which are activity based and include outdoor pursuits such as rock climbing, abseiling, caving, canoeing, orienteering and weasling . The aim of the house is to try to engage with a young person during a time of crisis and to promote physical and mental challenges through the activities. This hopefully will help build trust both in the peer group and the staff team as they rely on each other to achieve the tasks set out. Our staff team were chosen for their caring and nurturing approach and also for their prowess in outdoor activities. We provide high staffing levels ranging from 1:2 upwards. We also have a fully trained and qualified instructor who facilitates the activities and ensures that risk is kept to a minimum. New Hey House will assess if The Lorimer Group have provisions in one of our group homes for longer term care; work undertaken in this area will be made during the 28 day placement. All staff have undergone a comprehensive induction package and will have completed the induction and foundation training over the first six months. This is complimented by further training to meet the requirements of the Care Standards Act 2000.
