Our principles are guided by legislation and guidance including: The Children Act 1989, 2004, Every Child Matters, The Care Standards Act 2000 and the Children's Homes Regulations 2001.

The principles of the Children Act 1989 underpin our aims: the best interests of the young person are paramount, their rights and needs are safeguarded, and their families are consulted in aspects of their care.

Our main principles are based upon:

  • A holistic approach to care, taking account of personal, social, emotional, cultural, educational and spiritual needs;
  • Valuing and respecting diversity;
  • Commitment to working against discrimination in all its forms;
  • Individual programmes of care and therapy for young people;
  • Quality assessment, planning and intervention;
  • Working in partnership with families, other professionals and the young people.
